Fighting AIDS with (RED) December 14, 2006

Hello everyone, I’ve had to step away for a sec; I’ve been trying to finish up the semester strong.
But anyway, I wanted to jump back into something pressing and something that we all can get involved with. You’ve probably seen the commercials about ‘Raising money for AIDS awareness’ from Sprint. A popular one is one with Kanye West rapping about awareness and then telling about bying a Red Motorola RAZR.
The idea was started by Musician Bono and Bobby Shriver. They have now teamed up with other famous celebrities, who are as well Activists like Oprah, Kanye West and many others.
If you have Sprint, this is a very great phone to upgrade to and it is now at a very affordable price. this is just one example of the ‘Product RED’ line if items. If you are a big online shopper and use American Express, some of your points and rewards will be donated for the Global Fund when you transfer to a ‘RED’ American Express card.
Many other companies will bringing out Product RED items in their upcoming lines like GAP, Ipod, and American Express.
Here are some pictures of the phone and other Product RED items:

WSSU Homecoming and Ludacris!! October 9, 2006

Well Winston’s Homecoming Gamewas a big success, beating Howard 12-0(more info). The weather was very rainy and dreary but they pulled out a victory.
Afterwards their Homecoming Concert was held at the LJVM Coliseum. Their feature artists were none other than Yung Joc and Ludacris. The concert was opened up with some more up and coming Def Jam artists. Yung Joc and Ludacris both put on an amazing performance!!
I was able to be on and backstage to see the show and I had a sec to meet and talk with Ludacris. He was very cool and down to earth. He signed lots of autographs and took pics.

“If You Love me You’ll Wait” September 29, 2006

If You Love me You’ll Wait is the name of the new Gospel play that is coming to GSO. Young gospel artist Steven McQueen is about to produce his new vision. Sort of a spin-off of the Tyler Perry idea, Steven, also a model, is incorporating Singing, Acting, and Modeling into his shows. This will be a break through in the Christian entertainment. There will be monthly shows and I will keep updated when I get more info and links.

I wanted to take a sec to give reference to my friend Dara’s blog and one of her recent posts. Her post Citizen Journalists really caught my attention and I want to help spread the word. The post is about Black Family Channel (www.blackfamilychannel.com) who is developing a national show called UR Television. “The mission is to share the important stories in our communities that are often overlooked by mainstream media.”
This show is designed around the idea that news content needs to be democratized, giving everyone, not just the media conglomerates, control of the stories that are told. A citizen journalist can be anyone who desires to find truth, expose inequality, and has the technical savvy to produce a story. Anything that is making a difference in your neighborhood, positively or negatively is greatly valued. Just think about what’s going on in your neighborhood and how everyone( the community) is feeling about it. They are looking for compelling stories including, podcasts, videoblogs, documentaries, and trailers that run up to four minutes. If you have an interesting idea, pick up a camera, do and interview or two, edit a short piece, then share it with UR Television.
Submission format: BetaSP, MiniDV, DVD

Southern Baptist Convention-2006 June 7, 2006

Just real quick, I wanted to let everyone know about the 2006 Southern Baptist Convention annual conference that will be held in Greensboro, NC at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The conference will be held on June 13-14. It is definitely something to check out and try to attend. You will need to register online; see website for details.
I only recently found out that the Convention will be bringing in an extra 20,000(+) people to Greensboro. This is a major event and as said, thousands of Baptists will be attening from all over the southeast coast. Personally, until recently I had only heard about the 102 SuperJam Concert that will also be held in the Coliseum. This is an annual 'Hip-Hop' concert that of course will also be bringing an extra 20-30,000 people to Greensboro from all over the US; but it is always good to hear that a Christian event is drawing the same amount of people as any other.
On another note, annual events like these always bring good business to Greensboro. Events of this size usually quadruple revenue sales for that week or weekend. On the business end, this June will be an amazing month for Greensboro. Ciao.
